Follonica, your beach holidays in Tuscany!

A splendid seaside town, overlooking the Tuscan coast almost at the same height as the Island of Elba. Follonica is famous and appreciated for its vast sandy beach, rocky coves and excellent sea and land cuisine. The city has long been an established holiday destination where the liveliness of a small town combines with the sun, relaxation and the crystal clear sea of an uncontaminated natural environment.

It is a place particularly appreciated by families due to the tranquility of the places even in the height of summer, the shady pine forests, the calm sea and the seabed that slopes very slowly out to sea.

In fact, the waters remain quite low up to many meters from the shore, allowing even the little ones to swim in safety.
Follonica has been awarded the Blue Flag for several consecutive years, a recognition of European level witnessing the high quality of the natural environment and the tourist services it can offer.

The original settlement developed in 1834 thanks to the opening of the Royal and Imperial Foundries commissioned by Grand Duke Leopold II. However, the area was known and frequented since the Etruscan period and in the Middle Ages when it was referred to as ‘Fullona’.

The working of iron and its derivatives was in fact a typical activity of this area already in those remote times. Today, after the closure of the last factory in the 1960s, the city recalls its iron and steel tradition at the MAGMA (Museum of Cast Iron Arts in Maremma).
